New hair cut

Riley has a new hair style! She looks more naked than she did a week ago (Good thing spring is on its way). I don't take my dogs to the groomers as often as I would like to, so when I do take them its usually a drastic hair trim when Kim (our groomer) has finished. Riley doesn't seem to mind her new hair style as much as Tim does. Tim likes the dogs to be shaggy and wild looking...lets hope this doesn't spill over on to our kids one day.

Yummy Dinner!

I made this great recipe for dinner tonight.

Turkey with Feta Topping

with Broccoli and Couscous!

4 Sun Dried tomato halves (not in oil), chopped.

1/2 cup boiling water

1/3 cup crumbled feta cheese

1 shallot minced

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 Tb basil (1/2 ts dried)

1/4 ts dried oregano

4 turkey cutlets

-Place the sun dried tomatoes in the boiling water for 2mins, then drain water

-Mix the tomatoes, feta, shallot, garlic, basil and oregano, in a small bowl.

-Place cutlets on a baking pan, with EVOO. Broil for 4-5mins each side or until done. On the last flip, top each cutlet with the cheese mixture. Bake until cooked through and cheese begins to melt.

Add some steamed Broccoli and Couscous!!! Yummmmy!!

We had visitors

Our friend Rachel and her girls came for a visit.
We met Rachel and her husband Ben when they were finishing up Ben's residency here in Ohio and Tim and I had just moved into town. Rachel and Ben ~~were~~ are gifts from God, she ~~was~~, is a source of strength and encouragement to get through residency. Thanks Rach!!
Rachel and Ben now call Indiana home but not before spending a year in Miami for fellowship, during which time us girls took a mini cruise to the Bahama's.

Rachel and Ben have two daughter's and a third baby due in June! Although the visit was short we had a great time.
We went to the zoo and did some shopping. Mary and Anna are easy going girls and had a great time with our dogs (well mostly Riley... Madison is just a bit too).

Here are some highlights!

The girls love animals and really loved seeing the rain forest!

Anna loved Riley and feeding her seemed to be great! She took a maternal role, worrying that Riley may choke, so she only gave her 1 piece of food at a time........It went something like this....

Yet, for herself Anna was not scared about choking...after all she is almost 2yrs old! At dinner she didn't waste any food :) Sticking in as much as her little cheeks would hold.

Thanks for stopping by Rachel, Mary and Anna! It was great to have little feet running through the house and hearing laughter in the morning. I can't wait to come visit this summer when the new baby brother or sister arrives in mid June.

Germs, Germs and more Germs

If you know me at all then you are well aware of my germ phobia. Thats right, sanitizers of any kind are my best companions. I have hand sanitizer in my car, purse, desk, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. I have sanitizers of very kind around my house, one for the bathroom, kitchen, floors, windows...well you get the idea. Lately it seems there has been several news castings listing the top 10 or 20 places germs are found. Well I have decided to make my own list and here it is;

Bad Choice

Even as an adult I seem to have the same childhood struggle with my eye's being bigger than my stomach. Today I was really craving a shamrock shake from McDonalds and my mind was set on the large. I thought; "go big or go home". Well I did a little of both.....I went big and went straight home quickly ....my stomach has been upset and hating me all evening :(

Moral of this story....Don't go big just go home.

Hurry Spring, Hurry!!

Reason number 5,782 why spring NEEDS to hurry up! We had a snow day on Friday and since I was home...I had the ~~pleasure,~~ nightmare of snow blowing.

2 hours later the driveway was clear and I needed a drink...or two!!!

Axxium Nails

I often feel more of a lady when I have a fresh manicure, I love how my nails look when they shine with color! However, that feelings lasts only a short time (2days) with a regular manicure :( BUT, I have been turned onto OPI's Axxium gel polish! Now that loving feeling lasts for 14 days!

The past week ~~has~~ had been in the 50's, even reaching the 60, which is way above average for February in Ohio. However, today the above average came to a halting STOP with a winter storm advisory!?!?!? So much for the groundhog theory of an early spring. More of a guilty pleasure than a dirty secret of mine is watching the Real Housewives. At this point I don't have a preference but over the weekend it was Beverly Hills, reunion. Tim thinks the show is total trash and claims he can't stand when I watch it. YET, today when he was SUPPOSE to be reading a journal article I caught him watching the Real Housewives reunion. I secretly took photos for proof....shhhhshhhhh

Happy Valentine's Day!

Valentine's day in our house is really not that big of a deal. We usually go out to dinner and when Tim comes home he usually has flowers of some sort. I appreciate my husband very much he is usually thoughtful and sweet. This year I didn't expect dinner or flowers until after valentines day (we had discussed celebrating later in the week). Tim has been especially busy over the past week, with a grant proposal deadline on Tuesday, however when I came home from work this is what I found!!!

I had been dropping hints about this...but I didn't think he was listening. Turns out I was wrong. Thanks Honey!

I too surprised him this year. Although arriving late I ordered a pair of MSU scrub caps!
He will love em' I can't wait for them to arrive!!

Mr. Fix it!

My nephew is boy to the core. He is the fix it, build it, play in it and even pretend to fix it child. For Christmas he received a power tool kit, complete with goggles. Since then he has been fixing everything in sight.
Here he is fixing grandpa's glass door and repairing the dinning room table.

He is too cute with his goggles on!!

He'll make a great husband one day.

The Old Days

One of my students asked me with a very serious tone and look; what games people played in the old days? Groupons and Tackling the Tower!!

CHECK IT OUT! I have found a great website for groupons in and around the area. This is for all my frugal friends out there. Its wonderful and I have already purchased a online photo album for only $15, but worth $50.00 in credit. Can't beat that, great for Christmas photo cards next year. Yeah, that is a little too much planning ahead but at least I will have saved.

For follow up on the stair climb. We did it!! We tackled the towers, yay!! It may have been the most painful 8mins of my adult life, but at least its done.

After the race a few of us went out to eat at a great little cafe' and on a telephone pole this was posted;

Blood Oranges?!?!

The school I work in is participating in a fresh fruits and vegetable snack program. Four days a week fresh fruits or veggies are given to our kids as a mid day snack. This year we have had; oranges, clementines, green beans, green peppers, apples, grapes, strawberries, bananas; and a variety of others. Today, however we had blood oranges and I'm sure you can guess how the kids responded to the name alone. I have never eaten blood oranges before today but I think it is pleasing to my pallet. A bit sweater than an orange with a hint of raspberry, yummy, yummy! I am not sure what season blood oranges taste the best but I plan to do my research. Here are a few photos of what my blood orange looked like.

That is the question. Tim and I are debating on weather to keep cable TV or to go without.

Today Tim and I went cross country skiing with our friends; Amy and Paul. We had such a fun time and can't wait to go back.

As you can see in the background there was a small sprinting race track...and yes Tim beat me, but we beat Amy and Paul!

It was really nice to enjoy the snow and all of God's creation.

Thanks again for going with us Amy and Paul.

Next time we go out the dogs should defiantly come, they would have a blast.

The Gym

I recently joined a gym and its been interesting to say the least. First off there must be something about me that says if you are older than 60 and walk around naked in the locker room then do it next to me! I have had more grandmas change next to me.....I think tomorrow I will switch end of the locker room.
In addition today at the gym there was a police training session. While completing my sit ups, push ups and other various toning exercises I looked over to see the officers in pairs on top of one another practicing flip moves. Oh, yeah it was another great day at the gym!

To all you single men one of my students (age 9yrs old) has some advice for you. He says the key to getting the lady of your dreams is to;
1) make her laugh. (He says try walking into trees or falling into the snow face first...these have worked for him in the past)
2) it helps to have "a pack", a six pack stomach that is. But not to worry he says if you're not ripped just don't take your shirt off.
3) and lastly he says that the number one thing to do when trying to get the lady of your dreams is to....wash up every morning!

Today is not just another day off from work and school, but instead it's a floating holiday to celebrate Rev. Dr.Martin Luther King Jr's Birthday, which is on January 15th. Some states call it by other names, like Human Rights Day, Civil Rights day, but by whatever name its more than just a day off!

Tackling the Towers

So I have signed up, along with several of my co-workers (who swear they will hate me when it done) for the 37 flight stair climb race. Its not until February 5th but the training as begun. By training I mean, practicing walking/running up 37 flights of stairs and timing myself. So far my best time has been 7mins and 30secs. For some reason that doesn't sound very long yet its a grueling 7 minutes of thigh burning butt aching torture. Check it out if you want to register , Tackling the Towers.

Crazy Ohio Laws

Ohio State Law-
It is illegal to mistreat anything of great importance.

It is illegal to get a fish drunk.

Happy Valentines Weekend

I am very excited and surprised for what Tim has planned for us this weekend. We are going to Lola's for dinner tonight. I am very excited about dinner; I have wanted to try this restaurant after hearing so many great things.

Tomorrow we are going to see the Valentine’s Day movie; Tim is sucking it up BIG time this weekend with seeing a chick flick.

But that is not all; he has also planned dinner on Sunday at the Crop Bistro. The Bistro's menu is made with locally grown food!! This should be a great time!!! I love you Timmy, Thanks for thinking of me on Valentine’s Day. Will you be my Valentine?

Ok, so it seems that I am often asked what stories I have from working with the kids at my school. I know from experience that working with children in any setting, but especially within the school setting can be rewarding and funny. Most of the time when asked about funny stories I forget them, however last week at school one of my kids made a comment about another referring to him as the "stank on my shoe". This is from a 1st grader, keep in mind. I'm not sure how his peer ended up being the stank on his shoe but one could only wonder. When I asked him about what being the stank on his shoe referred to his response was simple, "you know when you can't get rid of someone". Sure, I know exactly what he means?!?!?! Silly Mrs. Haffey!

Blogging 101

After spending way too much time setting my background and messing around with the settings, I'd say it’s about time that I write something, after all this is a blog site. Blogging as explained by Wikipedia is an internet dairy for the whole world to see, with added daily entries about the person’s life (that person would be me, in this case).

So today, I become interesting...so much so that everyone...like my two faithful followers will begin their days with my personal blog. Enjoy!
